Back to back wins for the Phoenix on the road

Rouyn-Noranda, Que. – Following an overtime win in Val D’Or, the Sherbrooke Phoenix were back in action for their second game in as many nights, as they took on the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies at Aréna Imagold. The Phoenix showed no signs of fatigue however, as they overcame an early deficit to defeat the first place Huskies 4-2, outshooting them 30-28 in the process.

With just under 5 minutes remaining in the first period, the Huskies were able to break the deadlock as Vincent Marleau put the home team up 1-0. Defenseman, Samuel Régis, found Tyler Hinam on a stretch pass at the Phoenix blueline. Hinam then flipped it to Marleau who broke in on goal and slid it pass Phoenix goaltender, Brendan Cregen, to open the scoring.

Sherbrooke was able to regroup during the intermission and tied the game at 1-1, less than a minute into the middle frame. Samuel Poulin recovered the puck in the high slot and showed great patience as he rounded the net before tucking home his team leading 9th of the season to get the Phoenix on the board. Nearly 5 minutes later, Alex-Olivier Voyer gathered the puck on the boards near the Huskies goal line and made a power move to cut toward the net and score to put the Phoenix up 2-1 early in the second. The Huskies used yet another stretch pass, this time from Ryan MacLellan, for the equalizer, as Félix Bibeau squeezed one by Cregen, tying him for the league lead in goals at 11. The teams went to the locker rooms all square after two periods.

Sherbrooke’s power play came alive in the third when Félix Robert banged home his 4th of the campaign, giving his team the advantage early in the third. Bobby Dow added an empty net goal with 1:05 left in the game and the Phoenix were able to hold off the Huskies from there, winning by a score of 4-2.
