Zachar leads Birds past Drumondville with 3 points
The Phoenix had their newest additions in the lineup for their first game back since the holiday break. On the road against the Voltigeurs, Marek Zachar led the way with two goals and an assist as the Phoenix stormed towards 2017 with their new look team.
Zachar and new teammate Luke Green each registered points on the Phoenix’s first two goals to open the game. Zachar’s first goal was assisted by new teammate Green as well as Anderson MacDonald 1:10 into the game. The Czech forward split the D while receiving a pass before breaking into score with a quick backhand deke.
1:25 into the second period on the power-play Félix Robert scored to give the Birds a two goal lead, assisted by Zachar and Green.
After Drummondville tied the game in the second period with two consecutive goals less than a minute apart, Zachar struck again for the game winner shorthanded and assisted by Evan Fitzpatrick.
Hugo Roy added the insurance goal in the third period with the help of Carl Neill and Yaroslav Alexeyev on a stellar tic-tac-toe play. From there Sherbrooke held off the Volteigeurs attack for a 4-2 win.
Fitzpatrick stopped 39/41 shots in addition to the assist on the game winning goal.
Sherbrooke has a two game home-stand next in the Palais des Sports against the Gatineau Olympiques and Shawinigan Cataractes, Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
