After experiencing a difficult trip to the Maritimes, Phoenix tried to continue his run of success at home, he who had won their last four games at the Sports Palace. Led by the trio of Zachar, MacDonald and Robert who totaled ten points, the Sherbrooke company harvested a fifth consecutive win at home by defeating the Drakkar by 7-3.
It’s the Phoenix who opened the scoring in the first. Anderson MacDonald, once again, snapped, but one goal was not going to satisfy rookie winger. From the beginning of the second, the MacDonald Félix Robert completed a superb play to make it 2-0.
The Drakkar however gave the jitters to Birds by replicating not once but twice. Simon Chevrier recovered a return of Justin Blanchette to make it 2-1, then Eric Léger beat rookie goalkeeper with a low shot 34 seconds later to make it 2-2.
But instead of panicking, Stéphane Julien’s hard working team rolled up their sleeves. Marek Zachar scored his eighth goal of the season on a breakaway, then its ninth after forcing a turnover thanks to good work on the forecheck.
Yan Aucoin cut the lead to 4-3 before the end of the second period. Yaroslav Alexeyev scored on a penalty shot early in the third, then Marek Zachar completed his hat trick with his usual pretense.
Thomas Grégoire completed the scoring into an empty net, thanks to a generous pass from Zachar sacrificing the four goal night, finishing the game with six points, three goals and three assists.
