Joshua Roy takes home the Paul-Dumont Trophy

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is proud to recognize Joshua Roy of the Sherbrooke Phœnix as this season’s Personality of the Year.

The Paul-Dumont Trophy, handed out annually since 1990, is awarded to the individual who provides a positive media impact and helps contribute to the well-being of the QMJHL’s image. Current NHL stars who have won the award during their time in the QMJHL include Sidney Crosby, Thomas Chabot, Jonathan Huberdeau and Kristopher Letang.

The prize is named in honor of Paul Dumont, who served as general manager of the Quebec Remparts, who founded the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament and who once was President of the QMJHL.

A native of Saint-Georges-de-Beauce, Quebec, Roy was a great representative for the league, notably on the international stage. Last December, the right-winger represented Canada at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he helped his squad to a second straight gold medal by assisting on the game-winning goal.

Despite the pressure that comes with being a Montreal Canadiens draft pick while playing in Quebec, Roy was always excellent when placed under the spotlight. As his audience continues to grow due to ties to the Canadiens, Roy remains a quality representative for the QMJHL.

The 19-year-old has also been available for his organization’s media needs, consistently appearing in press conferences, autograph signings and promotional events. On top of his off-ice exploits, Roy has also been named as a finalist to this season’s Michel-Brière Trophy, awarded to the league’s most valuable player.

Sherbrooke Phœnix head coach and general manager, Stéphane Julien, as well as Gatineau Olympiques head coach and general manager, Louis Robitaille, were the other two nominees for the 2023 Paul-Dumont Trophy.
