The Phoenix will hold its traditional blood drive in collaboration with the Sherbrooke Police Department, this coming Wednesday November 25th, between 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., at the Delta Hotel. Due to the exceptional circumstances surrounding COVID-19, it will be held by appointment only. The organization invites fans and Sherbrooke residents to reserve their time slot now.
An annual meeting… adapted!
The Phoenix wanted to get involved again this year with Héma-Québec. The blood drive is an event that the club holds dear. Remember that 1,000 blood donations are needed every day to ensure an optimal level of supply.
In these times of pandemic, Héma-Québec is redoubling its efforts to deal with the situation and adapting its practices to make blood donation a safe experience that saves lives. This is why, this year, the blood drive will be by appointment only. To reserve your time slot, contact 1-800-343-7264 (SANG) or by writing to email@example.com.
While last year, more than 550 people came to the Delta to donate blood, this year the maximum target is set at 250 in order to comply with Public Health measures. Note that the organizers provide control points for access to the site, in particular by taking donors and volunteers temperature; the introduction of additional disinfection measures and the establishment of revised logistics in accordance with social distancing measures.
Jaxon Bellamy gets involved
Veteran defenseman, Jaxon Bellamy, has chosen to get involved in the cause. In addition to playing the role of honorary president of the blood drive for the Phoenix, he became the very first ambassador on Quebec soil of the “Hockey dans le sang” program, better known among our neighbors in the Maritimes and the West under the name “Hockey Gives Blood”.
“I am very excited to get involved with this great cause. I am honored to be an ambassador for the “Hockey dans le sang” program. I invite you to make an appointment now for the blood drive on November 25th. Donating blood can make a real difference to the health of many, and even save lives. It is important !” says Jaxon Bellamy.
Created in 2018 following the tragedy surrounding the Humboldt Broncos, the Hockey Gives Blood program is an NPO associated with Canadian Blood Services which aims to mobilize and educate the hockey community on the importance of donating blood, stem cells, plasma, organs and tissues. The idea behind the program is therefore to offer tools that allow hockey players to have a positive impact on blood donation in their region. “Hockey dans le sang” is now proud to partner with Héma-Québec.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to team up with the Sherbrooke Phoenix. Together, we want to support people who need blood donations and other types of donations to save or improve their lives. We want to inspire other people across Quebec to do the same” says Stu Middleton, president of Hockey in the Blood.
