The Phoenix returns to Sherbrooke empty-handed

The Phoenix had one of its best outings so far this season but, was unable to come out on top.  Even though the Sherbrooke residents dominated in shots on goal, the Huskies walked away with a 3-2 victory.

The top scorer of the Pack opens the scoring.  Alex Beaucage (Charles-Edouard Drouin and Xavier Bouchard) logs the first goal with a “one-timer”, as the two teams play 4-on-4, to beat goalkeeper David Provencher.  This is his 100th goal in a Huskies’ uniform.  After being shutout yesterday, the Phoenix finally manage to get on the scoresheet.  It was 20-year-old affiliate, Charles Tremblay, who added the power play goal, assisted by Samuel Poulin and Xavier Bernard.  Stéphane Julien’s men retreated to the locker room with a 10-5 SOG lead.

At the end of the second, Coen Strang (Alexis Brisson and Charles-Edouard Drouin) scored his first ever goal in the QMJHL and gave his team back the lead.  With just over 2 minutes left in the game, Stéphane Julien pulled David Provencher for the benefit of a 6th attacker.  The Huskies win the face-off and Samuel Régis (Mathieu Gagnon) is able to fire the puck directly into the empty net.  The Phoenix were able to give Mario Pouliot’s troops a little scare as Samuel Poulin (Xavier Parent and Patrick Guay) narrowed the lead to a single goal with 46 seconds to go.  It was too little, too late!  The Huskies take the 4 points on the weekend.
